this appears to be a local call, from a customer service department, but when challenged to spell the name of the company (I could not catch the name) they hung up !! now blocked

Claimed to be from Windows & Doors Limited. No such company currently exists according to Companies House. So even making the call and purporting to be someone else is a criminal offence, quite apart from anything else they might be trying to do.
