Scam caller, hung up when I didn't speak

Claimed my SIM would expire due to a merger with Virgin Media and needed to send a new one, obviously a scam.

Claimed to be from O2. Said my SIM card would expire in 4 days due to their merger with Virgin Media and they needed to send me a new one. They said they'd send me a verification code. I received a verification code from O2. They asked me to read it to them, despite the text saying not to. They sounded very convincing its the scam where they've tried to access, need the verification code that's sent to your mobile and, if you give it to them, they have access to your account.

Received a call from this number. Hardly able to understand what he said at first. Very strong Asian accent. Eventually I understood him to say he was calling from my service provider - which he named correctly - but, when I asked how I could be sure he was from my service provider, he hung up.
