Called and told me they were from BT, and that as I had paid off my mortgage several years ago, I was due £2800 in compensation - I kept them talking as while they were talking to me they are not scamming anyone else. Apparently I managed to pass all the security, despite the fact they didn't know my last name, they had called the office (so not my mortgage at all!!) and gave a false date of birth - got cross with me when I gave a fake bank account number and kept saying how I was a highly educated woman and therefore I should know that the call was genuine!!! - laughable really - she eventually gave up and rang off!!!
