had a missed call from this number. called it back after reading this. Phone came up with clear plusnet branding. Auto response said company helping plusnet manage customers (like me) whose plusnet broadband renewal is coming up and currently have a physical landline (basically this facility will go within 12m so it will impact renewal options). The message said not to worry and they will try and call me back later.

Rang twice but I did not answer. Plusnet and EE do not do business this way.

Like so many I answered, but there was a silence, so hung up. As mentioned Plusnet don't usually work this way.

I called Plusnet customer services about this number. Several others had done so. Customer services said that it was a scam and they had never heard of Step Change.

This is ABSOLUTELY SAFE. See https://www.plus.net/about-us/people-we-work-with/ It is STEP CHANGE working for Plusnet to manage the cessation of PTSN. If you still have a phone service (which you might not use) connected to your broadband these folks will be calling to discuss your options. You MUST make some decision about your service. Called it back, says it's closed. Called proper customer service and they said it's fake.

Caller ID said it was PlusNet but no response when answered. Plusnet usually don't call, they'll contact via email, so I guess this was a scam call.

Had a call today from this number, I am a Plusnet user. This would appear to be a number belonging to STEP CHANGE used by BT Consumer Division Business (EE, Plusnet and BT Retail) see https://ee.co.uk/help/profile/manage/phone-calls-from-our-partners All three divisions will be working hard to move users off PTSN lines which (if all goes to plan) will be terminated within 12 months. They claiming to be calling on behalf of Plusnet (or one of the other two) would therefore be legitimate ... so long as they are not spoofing the CLI.

Had call from this number supposedly plusnet did not answer as knew it was scam

The caller spoke in clearly and sounded smug. He claimed to be from Plusnet and said that my analog phone line was to be switched off imminently, rendering my present broadband service inoperable. I hung up. Plusnet are pretty good at sending out their own marketing emails.
