I received a call from someone claiming money was owed for a “traffic offence.” The caller refused to provide details until I confirmed my identity, and then threatened that enforcement agents would attend Friday and “not leave until they had taken assets” to a value greater than the charge. They refused to disclose the enforcement company, only saying “you have a reference number – pay or I’ll see you Friday.” When I checked the reference number on the official council website, the system stated: “A payment cannot be taken against this Penalty Charge Notice. Please contact the Parking Office if you require further details.” I suspect this may have been genuine bailiffs, but withholding company details, using threats, and directing me to an invalid reference is unacceptable and amounts to harassment, and frankly, if this is how they conduct themselves, they should get a better job.
