Pretended to be from energy supplier discussing billing issue. Likely phishing attempt.

pretended to be from British Gas about my supply number and bill..... they didn't get when I gave the supply number as R U KIDDING

Claimed to be calling from the metering department of EDF (our actual energy supplier) to say there was an invoicing error and our MPAN wasn't matching our postcode. I had a similar call a few years ago which turned out to be a scam, so was very wary with this caller. He kept trying to convince me it was a genuine call, and that he would read out the MPAN (which I assume would be incorrect, and I would be asked to give the correct one). His only line of defence that I wouldn't have to give him any other information, and kept repeating it was genuine. If it was real, I'm sure the caller wouldn't get angry when I said I would call the main contact number and provide the information that way. I believe there are means for certain companies to see MPANs so it would be easy for them to know who your current provider is, as can be seen from other comments below. BE WARY

Getting ridiculous now. As already said by others, ringing on a daily basis from different numbers (that are very similar) stating from British Gas Lite, asking for meter information saying that my meter has got mixed up with someone elses in the street. Then asking when our Fixed Rate runs out. When you refuse to give information they get abusive and threatening, and then try to ring you from another number! British Gas have confirmed there is no problem with our meter. We too have been blocking the numbers that they are calling from, but lo and behold the next day they are ringing from another.

Had a call almost every day for a month or so, won't take no for an answer. Say they're from SSE who don't even supply our electric! Want MPAN number, this is a scam. Blocked the number but call from several, it's exhausting!

Claimed to be from the business current energy supplier wanting to check the meter number ..... when I said I had googled the number and its coming back with a fraudalent called slammed the phone down!

She said she was from EON and their computers had lost information. She needed me to tell her the numbers of the meter on the last bill. Very persistent told her couldn't do that and to call back. Blocked the number. Obvious scam.

pretending to be from "your" energy company, saying there's problem with the readings and the meter serial number not matching on the invoice etc?

Business Gas Supply: Told me they were from British Gas, wanted to check my meter number, said B Gas would not write to me, or email me and I couldn't phone in to them as it was a special metering department. Said I would likely be overcharged if I didn't confirm my details. Told him |I'm too long in the tooth to fall for his b/s :) Avoid, do not engage with them. full of sh1t.
